OAKLAND, CA – The Oakland Ballers dropped the rubber match to the Modesto Roadsters on Sunday afternoon by a final of 18-8 at Raimondi Park.
10 of Modesto's (18-12) 15 hits went for home runs, including four homers from former Cal infielder Max Handron.
A seven-run second inning from Modesto put Oakland (13-17) in an early hole. A solo homer from Bryce Cannon, a three-run shot from Handron and a two-run homer from Kingston Linak put the Roadsters ahead 7-1.
Starting right-hander Jacob Petersheim (L, 0-1) made his professional debut for the Ballers but was charged for eight runs (six earned) on eight hits and one walk in two innings pitched to receive the loss. Petersheim just concluded his college career at Colorado State University - Pueblo.
Handron's second homer of the day in the third drove in two more runs to increase Modesto's lead to nine.
Oakland closed the deficit to five on a two-run homer from Esai Santos, one of his three hits on the day, and an RBI double from Jeter Ybarra in the third.
However, the Roadsters scored in every inning except the ninth led by the long ball. Handron homered again in the fifth and seventh to complete an eight RBI day and Cannon homered for a second time in the sixth. Six different Roadsters homered in the victory.
