MODESTO, CA – The Oakland Ballers dropped the second game of their three-game series to the Modesto Roadsters by a final score of 6-3 on Wednesday night to even the series a game apiece.
Oakland (14-18) led 2-0 just three batters into the game on a two-run homer from Jake Allgeyer off Modesto starting right-hander Devyn Hernandez (W, 2-1). The home run traveled 428 feet to left-center, his ninth of the year which is the second-most on the team.
Modesto (19-13) responded in the second and third on RBI doubles from Bryce Cannon and Osiris Johnson and a solo homer from Tyler Williams to give the Roadsters a 3-2 lead.
Brendan O'Sullivan drove in his first professional run in the fourth with a bases-loaded, game-tying sacrifice fly to right-center. However, T.J. McKenzie grounded into an inning-ending double play to end the threat and Oakland would no longer score for the rest of the game.
Jacob Lojewski hit a go-ahead solo homer in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead for Modesto 4-3.
Starting right-hander Aidan Risse (L, 1-3) pitched a season-high seven innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts to receive the loss. He retired nine of the final 11 batters faced to complete seven innings for the first time this year.
Hernandez threw seven innings and allowed just the three runs on six hits and one walk with seven strikeouts to earn the win.
A two-run double from Lojewski in the eighth extended the Roadsters' lead to three.
Johan Castillo (S, 1) pitched two perfect innings of relief to earn the save and seal the win for Modesto. Oakland collected just one hit in the final five innings of the game.
The Ballers will go for the series win as they conclude their three-game road series against the Modesto Roadsters on Thursday, June 25. First pitch is scheduled for 7:11 p.m from Modern Woodmen Field. Fans can tune in beginning at 6:55 p.m on the Oakland Ballers YouTube Channel and HomeTeam Network.
