Offense sputters in Wednesday loss to Coast
Ballers go 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position

LONG BEACH, CA – The Oakland Ballers (0-2, 22-28) fell for a second straight night to the Long Beach Coast (2-0, 39-11) by a final score of 8-2 from Blair Field, marking the Coast's seventh consecutive victory over the Ballers.
Oakland scored the game's first runs in the third. After Esai Santos and Jake Allgeyer drew one-out walks, Jaden Collura drove both of them in with a double to right to give the Ballers a 2-0 lead.
Starting right-hander Hunter Day (L, 0-2) threw three scoreless, no-hit innings to begin the night but surrendered a two-out, two-run double to Cuba Bess in the fourth to even the score at two. David Whittle drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth with an RBI single after Emilio Corona led off the frame with a single and stolen base.
Day finished the night pitching five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in the loss.
Long Beach starting right-hander Cole Percival (W, 1-0) completed five innings and allowed just two runs on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts to earn the win.
The Coast tallied two more runs in the sixth on a two-out, two-run homer from Jacob Jablonski and three more runs in the eighth on four hits, including another RBI double from Bess.
Oakland tallied eight hits on the night with Myles Beale collecting a game-high three but Ballers batters went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
Coast closer Zach Voelker (S, 10) earned his league-leading 10th save by collecting the final four outs of the game with three strikeouts.
The Ballers will look to salvage the series finale as they conclude their three-game road series against the Long Beach Coast on Thursday, July 16.
